Nick is a world-renowned show jumper, whose career has spanned nearly 40 years, winning thousands of classes and hundreds of Grand Prix' events, and over £6.5m in prize money. Team Gold Medal 2012 London Olympics and of course the Individual Gold Medal at this years Rio Olympics. Nick has represented Great Britain six times at the Olympics. Nick is the current holder of the high jump record at 2.32m which he set in 1978 at the Olympia Horse Show riding Lastic.
In September2001 after a serious riding accident when Nick broke his neck he was forced to retire from show jumping. Following an amazing recovery he made the courageous decision to compete again. Once again Nick returned to winning form and representing Great Britain.
Nick Skelton’s brilliant horsemanship is demonstrated by the fact that he has brought Big Star back from injury.
Prior to Rio 2016, the last competition Big Star won was the Aachen Grand Prix in 2013, this was due to injury and it has took two years to get him back to competition. It has taken a lot of work, but Nick always knew if he could get him right then he could do this.
A quote from Nick about Big Star "He is an absolutely amazing horse. He has all the right attributes and he is the best horse I am ever likely to have. I have nursed him and nursed him, and he has come good for me – this is for him.”
